In textile finishing factories, a dok refers to a metal cylinder with a surface coated with special material, used for transporting or holding fabric in its open-width form. It is a special apparatus on which fabric is wound.
Dok machines are used to wind fabric coming out of weaving machines without curling the edges and at a speed synchronized with the machine. These machines wind the fabric on the reverse side, providing protection against potential issues on the front side.
In the textile industry, the process of winding finished fabric into rolls is performed either by winding it onto a cylinder inside the weaving, knitting, or nonwoven machine where it is produced, or through external surface winding systems outside these machines.
